Today was a very long day. I arrived at the Denver airport before noon and boarded the tour bus that was taking us to Glenwood Springs, about three hours west of Denver on Interstate 70.
The campsite was at Glenwood Springs High School. After I met my friends, former Star-Telegram Managing Editor Kevin Dale and his wife, Lana, we set up tents and picked up our ride packets, then headed off in search of dinner.
I was very nervous about the altitude, although the first couple of days wouldn’t be too high. Glenwood — burial place of Doc Holliday, by the way — is only at 5,761 feet. I took a short ride and felt fine, which helped me sleep much better.
