Reporters and audio: A good marriage?

We are launching a redesigned Web site at late this month, and the emphasis is on story pages as landing pages. The days of users coming to our Web site strictly through the home page are long gone.

I’m hoping that form somewhat follows function. In other words, when our reporters, editors and photographers see how good their content looks on the new site — and that it’s very easy to access for people already interested in that subject — maybe they will be more inclined to produce multimedia content.

In that vein, I’m thinking of starting with audio for reporters. We’ve pushed video up to now, but I think audio clips might be the way to go. It’s easier, and will be plenty interesting.
